Seu progresso: Beginners Continue estudando Do you know how to you use possessive pronouns? I’ll show you. Possessive pronouns are used when we want to show that something belongs to or is part of someone or something else. For example in the sentence “These books are mine, not yours”, the words “mine” and “yours” are possessive pronouns and are used to replace the longer forms “my books” and “your books.”Os pronomes possessivos se usam quando queremos indicar que algo pertence a ou é parte de algo ou alguém. Por exemplo, na frase “These books are mine, not yours” (Esses livros são meus, não seus), as palavras "mine" e "yours" são pronomes possessivos e são usadas para substituir os substantivos “my books” e “your books”.There are some rules though which we need to remember so let’s take a look.Contudo, há algumas regras que devemos lembrar, vamos dar uma olhada.We use possessive pronouns depending on:Usamos os pronomes possessivos de acordo com:• number: singular (eg: mine) or plural (eg:ours)número: singular (p. ex. "mine") ou plural (p. ex., "ours")• person: 1st person (eg: mine), 2nd person (eg: yours) or 3rd person (eg: his)pessoa: 1ª pessoa (p. ex. “mine”), 2ª pessoa (p.ex. “yours”) o 3ª pessoa (p. ex. “his”)• gender: male (his), female (hers)gênero: masculino (his), femenino (hers)The words mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours and theirs are possessive pronouns. They show who or what something belongs to.A palavras “mine”, “yours”, “his”, “hers”, “its”, “ours” e “theirs” são pronomes possessivos. Indicam a quem ou o a que pertence uma coisa.Let’s look at some examples below of how to use them.Eis alguns exemplos de como usá-los.• That house is ours.Essa casa é nossa.• Those cars are theirs, not ours.Esses carros são deles, não são nossos.• This is my book, not yours.Este é meu livro, não é o seu.• Those people are your friends, not mine!Essas pessoas são amigas de você, não minhas!• The bicycle is his, not his brother’s.A bicicleta é dele, não é de seu irmão.• This is my bedroom. Hers is bigger.Este é meu quarto. O dela é maior.Look at the possessive pronouns in these sentences and note that they may be used as subjects or objects.Olhe para os pronomes possessivos destas frases e veja como eles podem ser usados como sujeito ou objeto.• Look at those houses. Mine is the biggest one.(subject = my house)Olhe para essas casas.
