Today we’re going to look at the modal verbs “must” and “mustn’t”.
As you probably already know, “must” expresses obligation and “mustn’t” expresses prohibition. Look at some rules you might find on a piece of paper on the wall in a classroom where people are studying English. Olhe para estas regras que poderiam se encontrar em uma folha de papel pendurada na parede de uma aula onde se estuda inglês. You must listen to the teacher. Você deve escutar o professor. You must do your homework. Você deve fazer seus deveres. You must try to speak in English at all times. Você deve tentar falar em inglês a todo momento. You must follow the teacher’s instructions. Você deve seguir as instruções do professor. You mustn’t chew gum. Você não deve mastigar chiclete. You mustn’t shout. Você não deve gritar. You mustn’t speak when the teacher is speaking. Você não deve falar quando o professor estiver falando. You mustn’t run in the classroom. Você não deve correr pela sala. The most important rule when studying English in a classroom is “You must try to speak in English at all times”! A good rule for online students is “You must try to write to your teacher in English at all times” ;) Uma boa regra para os estudantes que estiverem fazendo cursos on-line de inglês é "Você deve tentar escrever a seu professor em inglês a todo momento" ;) Remember the above rule next time you write to your teacher :) Não esqueça a regra acima a próxima vez que você escreva a seu professor :) Have a lovely weekend.
